September, 2012

Fantastic feature article in the local newspaper, front page. Pinky’s avian vet, Dr. Scott Weldy, received an award from California Veterinary Medical Association recently. They described Dr. Weldy….”if Noah’s Arc needed a vet, he would be the one.” He treats many of the Lily Sanctuary parrots, including performed Pinky’s amazing surgery last year. He also works with a local raptor rescue program, all of the local zoos, and gets the call when a mountain lion needs medical attention. Meet Dr. Weldy…… Read full article>>

Top Work Places 2011

Lily Sanctuary Honored At Top Work Places Event

December 1, 2011

The Lily Sanctuary, as the result of the survey submitted by many of our volunteers, was honored tonight at the Top Work Places Awards in Orange County at a luxurious event held in The Grove auditorium in Anaheim.

There were some 920 companies surveyed, with 40 small companies selected for the honors. The Lily Sanctuary won fourth place in that category and was also honored with a special award for the company with the best work ethics.

Venette and I are so appreciative of the effort you [our volunteers] put forth in getting us this nomination and the awards. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication you put in to keep The Lily Sanctuary the great place it is. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dan Hill

Hi Everyone:

Further to Dan’s email about our amazing night at the Grove last night:  this is an annual deal the OC Register has done for the last 4 years. Through employee surveys conducted by their contract company Workplace Dynamics, they honor the top 75 workplaces in Orange County–which they break into categories of small, med, lg. (for a total of 75).  The top 3 in each group get interviewed, videoed, invited to the podium.  We knew that didn’t happen.  But we never, ever, ever thought that we’d be NUMBER 4 (out of 40 in small category).

Additionally, Dan mentioned the Ethics award. There are 10 categories for the Medallion Special Awards, based on employee comments about company strengths in all categories. We were blown away to be winners of the Ethics award. Of all the categories, I think this one is the most special to me.

The OCRegister has a special 2011 Workplace Awards supplement in today’s newspaper. You can also go online to www.ocregister.com/workplaces/.  Descriptions about the companies and employee quotes are online only.

BTW, the results were culled from surveys from 18,500 employees!  All of you who responded to the surveys did one hell of a job.  We will be sent a copy of the survey results (no names or identifiers) not only so we can feel good about ourselves, but also so we can learn and hopefully improve areas of weakness.  Once again we thank you sooooo much for what you said, what you do and who you are.

With love,

Venette Hill

Why non-stick appliances are no friend to pets

Last week I received this email: “Help help…..I had no idea about the self-cleaning oven thing and I just started mine this morning for the first time ever. I did put my African Grey parrot in my office which is on the same floor on the other side of the house with the door shut. I must be dumb. I have never used a self-cleaning feature and I didn’t even know it would smell. Once I started smelling it, thinking it was a fire or something, I went out to check it. I then looked online to see about the effects on people and found the effects on birds. I have turned it off and opened all of the windows in the house and the heating system so it wouldn’t circulate it in the house. more>>
