jennifer44 In 2007 I moved to Orange County from LA County. When I lived in LA I had worked part time at a bird store helping out where I could. I wanted to continue working with parrots and found the Lily Sanctuary through VolunteerMatch.com. I have to say, that it was a perfect match for me. I was contacted right away, and immediately invited to come in to meet the founders and the birds. I knew right away that I wanted to volunteer as much time as I could to the Lily Sanctuary. Just walking through I could feel the love and dedication that the Lily Sanctuary staff provided for each bird. I was hooked! I have been volunteering for 3 years now, and can not imagine my life without the Lily Sanctuary. They truly are an amazing bunch of individuals who give from their hearts so that no bird suffers. My only wish is that I could do more for the Sanctuary.
I’ve personally experienced the results of this organization in…viewing the daily care and maintenance of the parrots.
What I’ve enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is…being able to care for all the various types of parrots, and becoming part of the Lily Sanctuary family.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were…AMAZING! The people who volunteer for the Lily Sanctuary are loving and caring individuals.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could…expand and take care of more birds in need.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization? About every week

I rescued a young cockateel from crows. Whilst I was trying to find it’s owners I borrowed a cage and kept it in my living room. Every time it screeched my bunny, Charlie, would run & hide under the bed so I knew I had to find a safe place for the bird and keep my bunny happy. I found a flyer for … more

When I lost my macaw to kidney disease, I called the sanctuary looking to adopt a companion parrot that needed a home rather than purchase one from a pet store. There are so many parrots that need homes, I just wanted to help. And I wanted a macaw. I got a call back right away. I was introduced … more

The parrots at the Lily Sanctuary are lucky indeed. They are handled with care, love, dedication and respect, no matter what baggage they bring with them. In addition to volunteering at the Sanctuary, I am now fostering my first precious rescue bird. It is one of the best jobs I have ever had. … more

After this initial contact, she and another member of the organization … more

When I was debating about getting a cockatoo as a pet, the Sanctuary first had me visit and meet all of their birds. They were realistic in pointing out I probably should not start out with one of the huge cockatoos I had dreamed of having. They educated me about the time and responsibilities … more
